Goal: Parents are the primary religious educators of their children. Our formal classes are here to support you in your ministry. It is our privilege to partner with you and your family along your faith journey. Together we provide our children with a sound program to help them become disciples of Jesus Christ.
Our group of catechists, headed by a director, is responsible for the religious education of children in the first grade through eighth grade. More than 250 children are enrolled and there is always a need for more teachers and volunteers.
Our catechists are volunteers who give generously of themselves. They devote time to spread the message of our faith and to build up our faith community. Most are not teachers by profession; however, all possess a love of the Church and a desire to help our children grow in the love of Jesus.
All catechists are required to:
be in good standing with the Catholic Church, living their faith in their daily lives.
conform to all Diocesan requirements of completing the safe environment program.
Activities: The Parish School of Religion program is a two week session held the last week of May and the first week of June. Classes are held from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. During the school year, the children return 2 to 3 times for continuing education classes.
Registration for School of Religion is held in late February & March. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Some parents choose to teach their children at home. The Director of Religious Education supports home-schooling parents by acting as an on-call resource. Because it is important to interact with other students, home-schooling is not allowed for sacramental preparation. Home-schooling families can register in August.
